International Community Development Award

This award recognizes an outstanding contribution to community development in an international setting. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Working with communities in countries other than the United States of America
  • Working with people with an international background within the USA, such as engaging immigrant and refugee people
  • Research, teaching or practice that contributes to international community development outcomes

Individuals or teams are eligible for the award. The award can be presented to a CDS member or to a person who is not a current CDS member but who exemplifies the Principles of Good Practice as adopted by the Society.

The award recognizes a broad range of roles in community development including teaching, research, practice, programming, administration, or any combination of these roles. Contributions with proven impacts/results over the short or long term are eligible. This includes activities that have been conducted for one or more years. It also includes short term activities that may have been conducted for less than one year but with demonstrated promise of long term community improvement.

Eligibility

  • Can be a current member of CDS or a non-member who exemplifies the Principles of Good Practice
  • Displays Quality – the contribution reflects a high degree of excellence in content and process
  • Displays Engagement and Empowerment – the contribution has shown sensitivity towards local circumstances, appropriate engagement and has engendered community empowerment
  • Displays Innovativeness – the contribution has engenders originality and local refinement of a current community development principle or practice
  • Displays Impact – the contribution has made, or holds promise to make, a significant contribution to the well-being and function of communities
