Duane L. Gibson Distinguished Service Award

Presented to a CDS member in recognition of superior and long-standing service to the field of community development, and, in particular, work for the advancement of the Society. Board members and officers are ineligible for this award. Self-nominations are not accepted.

Criteria

On July 22, 1995, board action changed the name of the Distinguished Service Award to the Duane L. Gibson Distinguished Service Award. This award is presented to a CDS member in recognition of their superior and long-standing service to the field of community development and, in particular, their work for the advancement of CDS. No current officer or Board member of the Society shall be eligible for this award. A maximum of two (2) Distinguished Service Awards may be bestowed each year by the Society. 

1. Active participation in the Annual Conference of the Society as a presenter, convener, or organizer.
2. A length of membership and service to the Society of not less than seven (7) years at the time of nomination.
3. A consistent and diverse leadership role in the activities of the Society; e.g., serving as a committee member, chair, member of the Board of Directors, and/or officer.
4. List record of accomplishments made on behalf of the Society and profession.
5. Evidence of creativity and vision for the future direction of the Society as a part of the contribution made to the organization.
6. Evidence in support of the nomination should include a response to the online nomination and nominee forms which address the criteria above, including a one to two-page statement highlighting the nominee’s distinguished service to the CDS profession, resume or curriculum vitae, and at least two letters of support from current CDS members. (Self-nomination is not accepted.)

Eligibility

• Must be a current member of CDS
• Must have at least seven years’ membership in CDS
• Not a current officer or Board member
• Participation in annual conferences of CDS (presenter, convener, or organizers)
• Provided leadership for CDS
• Holds a record of accomplishment on behalf of CDS
• Demonstrates creativity and vision for the future direction of CDS
