Chair’s Message – February 2025

Greetings everyone, I hope you’re effectively navigating all the changes happening in Washington DC. It has been a real challenge to keep up all the dramatic changes and shifts in policy and their implications for our work in community development. I have found myself consulting the Principles of Good Practice pretty regularly and wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone that while we all do different kinds of work in communities, the principles are a way to connect across our differences and find meaning and solidarity in our work.

With just about five months away until the CDS Annual Conference in Geneva, New York, we are looking forward to seeing everyone this summer. We recently announced the special rates on nearby hotels and also the opportunity to stay on Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus in one of the dormitories.
Conference registration is expected to open up soon and we are excited to present the variety of mobile learning workshops, as well as pre-conference workshops that will be available as additional experiences. If you are a current member and plan on attending the conference, take advantage of the early bird discount and join us for an engaging conference in the Finger Lakes! Not a member of CDS? I welcome you to join CDS and invite you to attend our annual conference from July 6th to 9th. More details are on the CDS website by visiting the conference main page.

Nominations for annual CDS Board Elections will open next month until the end of April. More details will be sent out in the coming weeks to CDS members. Open board positions for consideration are Board Chair, Treasurer, and two Board Directors. All positions will be required to serve two-year terms and nominees must be active members of CDS. The CDS Board of Directors Election will begin in early May.

In service,

Stephen Jeanetta
