The Indian Industrial School at Genoa was the fourth largest non-reservation boarding school established by the United States Office of Indian Affairs. The facility opened on February 20, 1884 and, like other federal Indian boarding schools, its mission was to educate Native American children in order to assimilate them into American society.

Take a trip to Weeping Water and learn how to leverage social capital for rural community development. Local leaders, including representatives of RAWW and the Weeping Water Valley Historical Society, will showcase community-driven projects both planned and completed including rehabilitation and civic reuse of the Cass County Agricultural Society Auditorium and other downtown improvement projects like the Gazebo Area Restoration Project, Elam’s Landing fishing dock, and a local FFA food enterprise. A little free time will allow visits to Memory Lane Museum, Meeske Hardware and/or Grandpa Snazzy’s. Before heading back to Omaha, participate in a Weeping Water Town Hall Forum.

While the Omaha craft beer market shows no signs of slowing down, recent rising costs of operations, changes in consumer drinking habits, and lingering effects of the pandemic have created significant challenges among urban brewing markets. To be more resilient among these recent economical and societal shifts, craft breweries have had to adapt. In this workshop, participants will taste, experience, and explore several craft breweries in Omaha, hearing from knowledgeable brewers and community partners about their unique approaches to community development and ways they’ve adapted to best meet the needs of today’s consumers, rising costs, and post-pandemic social environment.
