September 2022 Chair’s Update

We welcome some great new board members for this coming year. Neil Linscheid comes to the Board from Minnesota Extension where he has focused on business and economic development, and Steve Jeanetta, who has served as treasurer in the past, has joined us as VC for operations from Minnesota Extension as well. James Calvin, a long-term activist in community development form Johns Hopkins was on the board some time ago, and we welcome him back. Lisa Gilchrist is finding time from her busy work as Executive Director of Stony Plains Family and Community Support Services and Volunteer Centre in Alberta to return to the board as Secretary.

I also want to let you know that Bo Beaulieu, our current treasurer, initiated a conversation with NACDEP President, Rebekkah Dudensing, on how we might work together better to strength the field. They are very interested in talking more about participation in our journals and the potential for a joint conference. They will talk more about it at their upcoming retreat, and we will continue to look at possibilities.

As reminder, except for executive sessions, all board meetings are open to Members. At our next meeting, October 11, 10AM Eastern Time (US & Canada), we will be discussing the Society’s financial health and implications for staffing our Society, an ongoing POG review, the revisions of the Principles of Good Practice, and how we might engage Society members in a strategic planning process. We welcome your thoughts and your participation. Join our meeting or email me at chair@CDSociety.org with suggestions and ideas.
